ROLLING TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE

ROLLING TOWARDS INDEPENDENCE

During his service as a Chemical Corps Officer at a US Army base, Greg was completing a training exercise when he was struck by lightning while wearing a Kevlar metal body plate.  Greg was without proper oxygen for almost 30 minutes, which caused an anoxic brain injury.  He owes his life to a fellow soldier who kept him alive with CPR until he could be transferred to medical facilities.   Due to this traumatic event, Greg sustained burns to roughly 60% of his body, and was separated from the Army with a permanent disability.  Greg moved back home to his parents where he worked very hard on his recovery from the brain injury.  Greg can walk , but tires easily and often needs assistance.  His parents were hoping to take him on a vacation to visit family members but were concerned about his ability to navigate the physical demands of travel.  Greg’s parents contacted SALUTE about the possibility of getting assistance with a lightweight travel wheelchair.  SALUTE was happy to assist Greg with this wheelchair to foster his independence and allow him and his family more opportunities.

“Having this chair made a HUGE DIFFERENCE!  It gave Greg more independence.  We walked everywhere while he was able to use the chair.  Worked great.  Thank you!”                              Greg’s Parents
