Seven tours of Afghanistan and three additional overseas assignments were just some of the highlights of Caleb’s sixteen years in the US Army. Caleb’s retirement from the Army was due to permanent disability, possibly related to an explosion during his service in the Special Operation Forces. Since separating from the Army, Caleb has struggled with walking and standing, which led to several surgeries. He and his wife (also a disabled veteran) are on a fixed income of VA and disability benefits. To keep their expenses low, Caleb tries to mow his property himself. Unfortunately, even dividing the chore over several days aggravates his injuries, often sending him to an urgent care for pain treatment. Caleb’s case manager suggested he apply to SALUTE for help with a robotic lawn mower. SALUTE was able to provide the labor-saving equipment to Caleb, which has provided substantial relief.
