How quickly a life can change. A veteran of both the Army and the Air Force, Charlotte had a serious accident in 2021, which resulted in fractures in two areas of her neck. Even after seven surgeries, she remained a quadriplegic. Her husband stepped in to serve as her caregiver as she continued physical therapy and looked for other possible medical solutions. In 2025, Charlotte discovered Beyond the Chair – a specialized activity-based recovery program for those living with paralysis. This adaptive exercise program is based on developmental movement focusing on areas such as rolling, sitting, standing, crawling and walking. Even four years after the accident, Charlotte showed improvement in independence and functional mobility, increasing her self-sufficiency with transfer and positioning and reducing caregiver reliance. Charlotte joyfully experienced assisted standing, something some physicians had told her would never happen. SALUTE was very proud to help this veteran pay for the costs of the physical therapy sessions at Beyond the Chair.
“Although it has been a few years since my accident, I continue to improve. I am excited to say that I am accomplishing more than some physicians felt possible. Thank you for believing in me. “ LTC Charlotte, US Army (Retired)
