A LIFE OF SERVICE

A LIFE OF SERVICE

Sergeant First Class John has had a lifetime of service in the military and the police force.  Serving in the US Marine Corps for four years, John sustained several injuries before his return home.  John then started a new chapter in his life and became a police officer in a major metropolitan area.  He also joined the US Army Reserve at the same time.   John was a dedicated police officer and reservist for 21 years, until medically retired due to a lingering knee injury from his time in the Marines.  Other physical and mental problems were plaguing him as well, forcing him to undergo several surgeries and incur unplanned medical expenses.  Struggling to support his family of six with reduced pay after retirement, John was forced to file bankruptcy, barely saving the house they lived in.

All of these pressures and the strain of his post-traumatic stress disorder led John to seek mental health treatment at a hospital-based veterans’ program.   Attempting to relieve the financial pressure as he continued his mental health program, SALUTE, INC. assisted with a mortgage payment for the family.

“After everything we had been through since I returned from the war, I was finally given grace and help!  I cannot thank you enough for helping me and my family!!  “                                                                  – SFC John
