Palatine, IL, May 19, 2020 — SALUTE, INC., the Palatine-based nonprofit that raises funds to help meet the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans and their families has added a new twist to an old tradition this May. During May, SALUTE is inviting individuals and families to participate in their Running Without a Finish Line fundraiser.
“We launched our organization with our first Memorial Day weekend run seventeen years ago,” said co-founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. “Our race has been a tradition to kick-off each summer, but more importantly, has raised awareness of our mission. This year we’re giving runners a break by letting them sleep in and take it easy, but we’re asking them for a $25 donation to help military families who are very much in need right now.”
Beiersdorf said that the annual 5K/10K run or walk has brought thousands of people together over the years and created many memories. SALUTE is encouraging people to share photos of runners, SALUTE race shirts and even medals they have won on the organization’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
“As much as group events are discouraged right now, the need still exists,” said Beiersdorf. “While runners have memories of the race, military veterans and their families have memories of how SALUTE helped them get through a difficult time by helping with rent, car or utility payments or just cutting through barriers to get them access to the care they need.”
Beiersdorf joked that many runners would get up on race day, check the weather and then hurry over to the course to register before the race began. The Running Without a Finish Line event will make that effort unnecessary.
“We are at a point where military families need our support more than ever. We’re very proud that with the support of this community over our seventeen-year history Salute has assisted over 14,400 military families. As we begin to look forward, we look back and know that each runner, walker, volunteer, sponsor and corporate partner has enabled us to continue our mission.”
