Palatine, IL, April 4, 2018 — For immediate release – Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes, an avid long-distance runner and frequent participant in marathons, has issued a special challenge for those who register to run in the 2018 SALUTE Memorial Day Weekend 5K/10K – beat his time and he’ll donate $5 to SALUTE, INC.
SALUTE, INC. is dedicated to meeting the financial, physical and emotional needs of injured military service members, veterans and their families through temporary financial assistance. After a year off in 2017, the organization is bringing its annual Memorial Day weekend race back to Arlington Heights. A retired U.S. Army veteran, Hayes is a regular participant in the race and looks forward to challenging runners of all ages and skill levels.
“The Village of Arlington Heights is pleased to welcome the Salute run back to our community and I personally look forward to being a part of this terrific event,” said Hayes.
“We are honored to have Mayor Hayes make this generous offer in support of Salute,” said SALUTE, INC. co-founder and Executive Director Mary Beth Beiersdorf. “Mayor Hayes has been a trusted supporter and friend to our organization over the years and we are sincerely grateful to him for initiating this challenge to help us raise additional funds to provide personal, direct support at the most critical time to meet the unique needs of each client.”
Registration for the May 27th run can be found at http://bit.ly/2EJeReJ. Both the 5 and 10K races will begin near Recreation Park and feature new course routes this year. “We hope for a record turn-out and encourage everyone to start training early,” said Beiersdorf. “While the mayor’s challenge is very generous, it will take a great effort to actually beat his time.”
