Program Description
The Nightingale Program provides assistance to families of injured military personnel hospitalized at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (R.I.C.). This camp is specifically designed to introduce disability sports into the lives of injured servicemen and servicewomen of the United States Armed forces. Recreation programs will be instructed by Paralympic athletes and coaches and will emphasize the importance of staying physically active post injury. The health benefits of sports and recreation activities are well documented. Physical activity is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle for people with disabilities, not onlyto promote wellness and prevent disease, but also to reduce the number of secondary conditions that can result from disability. the positive impact is not only physical but psychological as well, seen through increased socialization and self-esteem, and provides an opportunity for setting and achieving goals. sports and recreation activities also promote teamwork and create friendships, as well as foster independence and self-reliance.
Please join SALUTE, INC. in an effort to make CAMP A REALITY for our service members and support the mission to advance human ability!
