SALUTE, INC.
,  is in the process of starting a home adaptive renovation project in Oak Lawn, Illinois to honor an injured Marine Yuriy and his wife Aimee.  Please join us in making this dream possible by helping us meet our goal of raising $50,000.00 which will be used for renovation expenses and mortgage reduction.

Yuriy & Aimee's story:  Yuriy, a young Marine veteran, fought two terms of service in Iraq and Afghanistan, is the recipient of many awards, combat action ribbons and medals. After returning home from combat and making plans to be married, he had an appendix attack. He was sent to a military hospital for a routine appendectomy, and during surgery, a surgical trainee pulled the breathing tube out too quickly cutting off oxygen to his brain, which put him in a coma for two and a half months. He is now suffering with an Anoxic brain injury, which has left him unable to speak, is visually impaired, unable to walk and has spasticity in both hands. Shortly after Yuiry came out of the coma Aimee decided to marry him and care for him.

After learning that they have been living in a cramped one room at Aimee’s parents home, for the past two plus years, we decided to try to help them acquire independence and get their own home. Our intention is to give them an opportunity to transition successfully into their local community and provide them the tools necessary to be as independent as possible to succeed in life. The journey has been rather disappointing and difficult for as there are many organizations around that build homes for injured military, they all stipulate that sustained injuries must be combat related.

We have decided to take on a position of being pro active in what appears to be a very unjust situation. A young man serves his country by putting his life on the line in two different wars, comes back safe, then finds himself physically, mentally and emotionally impaired for life, because of incompetence during surgery at a military hospital.

Aimee is one of the most unusual and loving dedicated women, we have ever met. She is completely devoted to her husband and because of the extent of his disabilities the only joy she receives on a daily basis, is when he does well at one of his therapy treatments or responds to her with a smile.

It is for all of the above reasons we decided to plan a “Home Makeover Project” to show honor to Yuriy and his wife Aimee. The CRASH Team (Contractors Rally About Serving & Helping) a group of professional philanthropic contractors, will be joining us in doing the necessary adaptive renovation work to transform the existing house making it accessible to meet Yuriy’s needs.

Ashley Furniture has become part of our Team and has generously donated furniture and accessories for the entire project. Our goal is to raise $50,000.00 which will be used toward renovation expenses and reduction of mortgage for their newly purchased home in Oak Lawn. We can’t do it alone but Together We Can Make a Difference…
