Program Description
Once again, Salute, Inc. offered $2000.00 Service and Sacrifice Scholarships to graduating seniors from area high schools to honor former students of those schools who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We want to ensure that our community shows the necessary respect and gratitude for those military members who serve and sacrifice for us on a daily basis, particularly those who make the ultimate sacrifice.
The purpose of this scholarship is to emphasize how the freedoms and way of life we enjoy on a daily basis are the direct result of the service and sacrifice of so many in our armed forces over the years.
Eligible students were required to have at least a C average and submit a 1,000 word essay reflecting on what the phrase “service and sacrifice” means to them.
A committee reviewed and selected two winning essays. Winners may use the funds for books or tuition for college, university or other educational programs. Checks were made payable to educational institutions. The winners were invited to attend an award ceremony at Arlington Park Race Track Memorial Day Weekend.
This year's scholarship recipients:
Michael Ojrzanowski from Palatine High School
Nicole Ayabarreno from Warren Township High School
CONGRATULATIONS NICOLE AND MICHAEL!
